Usain Bolt launches his fleet of scooters electric in Paris

After you have picked all the records over 100 and 200 metres, the flash Usain Bolt will launch a new mission: to decongest the urban centers and allow city dwellers to move more easily. "I imagine that you all have had to pass through the stoppers to reach here. We want to avoid this kind of situations repeat themselves in the future, and Bolt is there for that," said the olympic champion at the launch of the brand Bolt Mobility Wednesday in Paris, of which he is the ambassador and one of the main investors.

On Monday, Bolt Mobility will deploy 450 scooters-electric in the streets of the capital and in the whole paris region," says the brand. Most reliable, these last are supposed to have a shelf life of two years versus six months for its main competitors. All thanks to an ingenious system of interchangeable batteries and an aluminium frame are considered to be more solid. Three different models of scooters will be offered. The largest of them, the Bolt Carriage, will be even with a small storage space at the front, ideal for a backpack or a bag race. A full-time team, hired by Bolt Mobility, will be responsible for the maintenance of the fleet. The company refuses to appeal, as with its main competitors, autoentrepreneurs - also known as "juicers" - the wanderers to recharge the scooters in lack of battery during the night.

Already the 40,000 scooters in Paris

Created six months ago by two american entrepreneurs, Sarah Haynes and Kamyar Kavani, Bolt Mobility already offers its scooters in free-service in a few medium-sized cities in the United States such as Fort Lauderdale (Florida) or Alexandria (Virginia). After Paris, the brand has the ambition of impose itself in a score of european cities by 2020. But it will already have a lot to do in the French capital, where no less than eleven brands compete for this market ultraconcurrentiel. 15.000 scooters electric are currently in circulation in Paris, a figure expected to grow steadily to reach 40,000 by the end of the year. In the Face of this "brothel generalized" denounced by the deputy to the urban planning of the mayor of Paris Jean-Louis Missika, the city reserves the right to temporarily suspend scooters, electric, pending the entry into force delayed of the law of orientation of mobility (LOM), currently under debate in the national Assembly.

Conscious of the urgency of the situation, the town council decided to act upstream by putting in place a charter of good conduct signed by all of the operators and a fee called an "occupation". It varies from 50 to 65 euros per vehicle, depending on the size of the fleet proposed. Recently, other drastic measures are in addition to these proposals: the impoundment of the scooter by inconvenient parking and 135 euros fine in case of traffic on the sidewalks. The municipality also promises the creation of 2,500 parking spaces dedicated to scooters electric by the end of the year.

Diversification

Several companies of scooters, power don't want to stop there. Bolt Mobility will, for instance, to present at the show Viva Tech a vehicle electric two-seater dubbed Bolt Nano, dedicated to the urban traffic. Under the brand name Jump, the giant Uber, already offers a service multi-modal complete between scooters and bicycles in self-service. Finally, the start-up Swedish Voi, which already offers its scooters in Paris since the month of march will also shortly launch its own bikes with electric assistance. The company plans to expand its service in over 150 european cities by the end of the year. The battle of the sidewalks promises to be tough.
