A child was taken to a hospital and 15 people were displaced after a fire broke out in a home in the Humboldt Park neighborhood and spread to another house, officials said.

The fire in the 900 block of North Saint Louis Avenue was reported around 12:45 p.m. and was brought under control about 1:10 p.m., according to the Chicago Fire Department.

A child about 2 who was not in the fire building but lives next door was taken to Norwegian-American Hospital in good condition after suffering some kind of medical issue, though not directly related to the fire, Chicago Fire Dept. spokesman Larry Langford said.

Firefighters could not get inside the fire building immediately because the flames were too intense, Langford said.

At least 15 others were displaced, including seven children, fire officials said.

No one was rescued, and the 15 were already outside when firefighters got to the scene, according to Langford.

It was not known where in the building the fire started or how.

About seven fire engines remained on the scene as of 2 p.m. as well as several firefighters and police officers.

Five ambulances were sent to the scene.
