Pedestrian in critical condition after Vancouver hit and run

A man is in critical condition after a driver hit him, then fled early Monday, Clark County sheriff's officials said.

A 34-year-old man was walking along the shoulder of Northeast 54th Avenue shortly before 2 a.m. when a southbound car hit him, sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Fred Neiman said. The car struck him in the 4100 block of Northeast 54th Avenue, Neiman said.

The driver then fled the scene, Neiman said.

A passerby found the man lying on the roadside with severe injuries, Neiman said. He was taken to Peace Health Southwest Medical Center.

The man is in critical condition. Due to his injuries, deputies have been unable to interview him, Neiman said.

The man has not been identified.

Based on debris left at the crash scene, investigators believe the suspect vehicle is a Nissan sedan. Investigators do not know the color of the car, but say it should have significant damage to the hood, passenger side grill and headlamp.
