FREEHOLD -- A suspended Asbury Park police officer and his sister admitted Tuesday to falsifying documents to get her and her son health benefits to which they were not entitled.

Alix Antoine, 38, of Neptune Township, and his sister Patricia Louis, 44, of Clifton, pleaded guilty to insurance fraud in connection with a scheme that got her and her son health benefits through Antoine's employment with the police department, said Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher Gramiccioni.

Antoine, a 12-year veteran of the department, was suspended without pay last year after he was charged and Superior Court Judge Leslie-Ann Justus, who accepted the plea, ordered Antoine give up his job effective the same day he admitted his guilt, Gramiccioni said.

They have agreed to pay $189,646 in restitution to Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield, the prosecutor said. Antoine is also forever disqualified from holding any public office or employment in the state of New Jersey, Gramiccioni said.

Antoine and his sister, who also goes by the name Patricia Antoine, are scheduled to be sentenced on June 9 when they are expected to apply for admission into the Pre-Trial Intervention Program, Gramiccioni said.

If they are not accepted into the program, they could face up to five years in prison.

Antoine has been out on $150,000 bail and Louis had been released on her own recognizance since their arrests on June 22, 2015.

Antoine was named in a four-count indictment charging him on June 27 with official misconduct, conspiracy to commit official misconduct, insurance Fraud and tampering with public records.

Louis, who was also named in the indictment, was charged with conspiracy to commit official misconduct and insurance fraud.
