Wettest February of modern era: Portland breaks precipitation record

Portland made history Tuesday.

Good, bad or otherwise: It's now the wettest February on record at the city's airport, according to the National Weather Service.

Portland International Airport has received 10.04 inches of precipitation this month, as of early Tuesday afternoon, eclipsing a record of 10.03 inches that was set in 1996.

The wettest Februarys 10.04 inches -- 2017 (as of about 2:20 p.m. Tuesday) 10.03 inches -- 1996 9.46 inches -- 1949 8.92 inches -- 1961 8.73 inches -- 1999 7.78 inches -- 1983

There's still plenty of time for Mother Nature to add to the total. Forecasters call for more precipitation at the airport in coming days -- with up to a quarter-inch of rain possible Wednesday -- and we don't flip our calendars to March until next week.
