If you buy a new car, you are less likely to opt for a diesel. Gas and electric motors are becoming more popular – but they are no longer as popular as gasoline.

Cars with diesel engines are becoming increasingly unpopular in Germany. The readmissions with diesel engines have declined significantly in comparison to year, as Federal Office of Motor Vehicles has shown. Nearly 35 percent of cars approved in October 2017 had a diesel engine. In October a year ago, it was still 44 percent of newly registered cars. The diesel share has been declining for several months, since buyers have been banned from becoming aware of manipulations of exhaust gas values in some manufacturers and fear of a depreciation of vehicles.

The new registrations for cars with gasoline engines, however, increased by 19 percent, with a good 60 percent of newly registered cars driving with engine. However, alternative drives were strongest, albeit at a low level. Thus, readmission of cars with LPG drive increased by just under 25 percent, which with natural gas drive by just under 35 percent, which with hybrid engines by 68 percent and cars with electric motor by almost 87 percent. In absolute terms, however, this is still very little: of total of approximately 273,000 newly registered cars, those with gas (700 cars), electric or hybrid engines (11,000 cars) made up only a good four percent.

The average CO2 emissions of all new cars increased slightly to 127.6 grams per kilometre. Among or things, this is due to fact that more petrol engines are being approved, which emit more carbon dioxide that is harmful to climate than diesel vehicles. Self-igniters release more toxic nitric oxide.

The trend towards alternative drives was also reflected in shares of brands in registrations. The electric car manufacturer Tesla grew at just under 79 percent stronger than any or brands. From a detachment of dominant carmakers in Germany, US company with a share of 0.1 percent but is far removed: most frequently re-approved brand was again in October one in which diesel scandal came into being – Volkswagen.
