A made-to-order doughnut shop is heading to Kissimmee.
Duck Donuts out of North Carolina plans to open its first Florida location this spring, said franchisee Mark Griffin.
He said he takes possession this week of the 1,500-square-foot space at The Crosslands shopping center on Osceola Parkway. Construction should take six to eight weeks, he said.
Duck Donuts is known for its confections made on demand, where the doughnuts are fried, frosted and sprinkled in sight of the customer.
“They are warm, fresh and made to order,” said Griffin, a resident of Reunion. “No donuts are racked. When you walk in they get put in the fryer and you have an incredible selection of toppings and icings.”
Duck Donuts got its start in North Carolina’s Outer Banks city of Duck in 2006. It has since spread to 130 locations, mostly on the East Coast.

Valhalla Bakery is opening another Viking-themed business, Valkyrie Donuts, near UCF as a stand-alone shop.

Griffin said the doughnut shop will serve cake donuts, retailing for about $13 for a dozen.
“You can come in and get a dozen in about 10 minutes,” Griffin said.
Griffin, whose background is real estate development, said he has plans to open more restaurants in Central Florida. He is next looking for leases in Winter Park and Lake Buena Vista.
