Facebook has announced that, unlike presumed, only data from US users has been passed on to Cambridge Analytica. Investigations should bring clarity.

Facebook: Users in Europe may not be affected by data scandal

It is possible that data scandal surrounding company Cambridge Analytica does not affect European Facebook users. This was announced by Facebook after hearing of CEO Mark Zuckerberg in European Parliament.

There was no evidence that Aleksandr Kogan, who had collected user data in his company with an app, shared data of European users with Cambridge Analytica, Facebook shared. According to company's knowledge, deal only affected data of users in United States. A review of Cambridge Analytica's computer systems should finally ensure clarity.

In previous estimates, Facebook itself had indicated that up to 310,000 members of social network in Germany and several million users in Europe could be affected. This calculation is based on user numbers of survey app with which Kogan collected data.

Wher European users could oretically be compensated for data outflow to Cambridge Analytica, Facebook left open. However, company pointed out that no database data had been touched by data misuse.

On Tuesday evening, Zuckerberg, before representatives of European Parliament, had answered questions about data scandal and acknowledged company's failures. The consultation process had been criticised beforehand: Zuckerberg only answered questions raised by group's peaks and little concretely. On some questions, Facebook submitted answers in writing.
