France: Samsung accused of suspicion of child labor

The South Korean company Samsung has to be responsible for suspicion of child labour and exploitation in France. Two clubs filed lawsuits against company, which, among or things, makes smartphones and televisions. They accuse Samsung of inhumane conditions in its Chinese factories as well as consumer deception.

Samsung rejected accusations. There was "zero tolerance" for child labour, it was said in a communication. "Samsung scrupulously respects local and international standards and labor regulations and demands same from its suppliers."

In 40-page complaint of two French organizations, however, Samsung is against its own code of conduct. In China, children under age of 16 worked in factories, working hours were abusive, and people were exposed to high health risks from pollutants.

The complaint goes from Antikorruptionsorganisation Sherpa as well as from aid organization Peuples Solidaires ("People of Solidarity"). They rely on investigations of organization China Labor Watch in years 2012 to 2016. A first complaint by Sherpa against Samsung had been dismissed 2014.
