Fatih Akin is very close to the American cinema of Passions. Therefore, it is not surprising that he was for his NSU revenge drama 34; out of Nowhere 34; a Golden Globe.

Golden Globe Awards: Full force

The chemistry was probably just right. Fatih Akins massive political from nowhere has conquered hearts of members of Foreign Press Association, who award Golden Globes. The second most important film awards of Hollywood are regarded as an important barometer for award of Oscars a few weeks later. According to Globe for best non-English-language film, it is very likely that from nothing it creates from current list of nine nominees in selection of five actually nominees for "Auslandsoscar".

Akin's NSU drama has perfectly met signs of times in all its facets: Traditionally, European films that focus on National Socialism and anti-Semitism have been rewarded with a bonus in American award ceremonies: Among Oscar winners were The past about Mephisto by István Szabó, life is beautiful by Roberto Benigni, forger of Stefan Rutzowitzky, son of Saul of László Nemes and most recently at Golden Globes Michael Haneke white Band. In months following Weinstein affair and MeToo debate, nerve of Times is that re is also a strong, militant woman in centre who rebels against legal system. And finally, in her first German-language role, Diane Kruger also brought necessary Hollywood glamour.

A political thriller whose fiction has references to reality of NSU murders: Especially by German critics, re was a predominantly critical discussion of nothing after premiere at Cannes Film Festival. The figures are too woodcut-like, to brachial end. Traditionally, motive of lynching is much more sensitive in this country than in America, where almost everyone is ready and prepared to defend ir home and family with weapon. Even a direct reaction to social events and a still ongoing process is more in line with American approach. Which German filmmaker would dare to condense a seven-year crime series and four years of process to a good 100 minutes film? This can only be done by hitting snow and daring to shorten it. And of course it is only at expense of nuances, which also leads to fact that prosecutor in trial against Neo couple acts completely unnecessarily like a dog. But this force is typical of Fatih Akin. Instead of weighing all though, he rushing impulsively forward. Through this passion he gave German cinema 20 years ago with his film short and painless an enormous energy boost.

But even toughest critics of film were taken by Diane Kruger's game, which in her first German-speaking role is much more vulnerable than she is known from her Hollywood roles, such as Helena in Troy or Bridget von Hammersmark in inglorious basterds. Very directly and directly she lets spectator into emotional world of a woman, whose whole life toger with her husband and her son is torn apart by explosion of a nail bomb. This fine flair for truthfulness of game is characterised by Akin's directing work in general. For short and painless or soul kitchen he brought his Hamburg buddies to screen, with against wall laid foundation stone for Kekillis international career and proved in his Wolfgang Herrndorf film adaptation Tschick great fine gefühlmit his Inexperienced young actors. This unmistakable feeling for talents and sensitivity for his performers may also be related to fact that Akin began his film career as an actor.

Like many of his films, he also deals with clash of different cultures, great life me of Fatih Akin, for whom he is particularly sensitized as son of Turkish immigrants in Germany. Personal reference and political social relevance are reliable constants in his orwise very versatile work. He is closer to American cinema of passions than to German though-and-but-way. After Golden Globe for best foreign film, it has now become much more likely that he will triumph in end also at Oscars.
