The wage dispute in the construction industry ends with a simple saying: Wages for employees are expected to rise by 6.6 percent in the east and 5.7 percent in the west.

Collective bargaining for approximately 800,000 employees in construction sector has been solved with a simple saying. The representatives of employers and IG Bau-Agri-Environment union agreed to compromise proposal of conciliator Wolfgang Clement. However, relevant bodies must agree to collective agreement within a period of 14 days.

Former Federation and Economics Minister Wolfgang Clement said that he was "very confident" that de tariff parties would agree to simple saying. The IG-BAU chairman Robert Cowardly said that he was "satisfied" with simple saying. "We brought cow off ice," said employer's negotiator, Uwe Nostitz.

According to simple saying, employees in West Germany should receive retroactively a wage increase of 5.7 percent for a contract period of 26 months on 1 May 2018. In east, wages should also rise by 6.6 percent on 1 May 2018 and 0.8 per cent on 1 June 2019, as Clement said. In addition re are several one-time payments.

A first round of conciliation had remained in night on Tuesday after 13 hours without result. At start of second round, IG Bau had once again threatened to strike.

The union had recently demanded a six percent wage increase for a period of twelve months. It also demanded an increase in 13th monthly salary as well as a remuneration for long journey times to changing sites. According to ir own claims, employers offered 4.2 percent more wages and a one-time payment of 400 euros for a term of 22 months.
