The Greifswald draughtsman and illustrator Horst Hussel is dead. This was confirmed by his daughter of German press agency. Hussel was born 1934 in Greifswald, 1954 he took up his studies at art school in Weißensee. Shortly before concluding his diploma sis, he was exmatriculated for "decadent artistic views". He could not complete anor study in West Berlin because of wall.

In years of division Hussel made a name for himself in GDR with his book illustrations and graphics. In total, he drew 130 books, including works by Alfred Jarry, Hermann Harry Schmitz, Adolph Freiherr von Etiquette, Arthur Schnitzler and Stefan Heym. He also worked for magazine Sybille. After reunification, he founded his own book Art publishing house, Dronte Press, and worked as a freelance artist in Berlin.

Benedict Erence praised Hussel in time as "one of last greats from brigade of ingenious Nonconformists in GDR". He was "a bewitching narrator" of "hand-teller dramas". The Tagesspiegel described artist as "first and last dadaists of GDR" and as a tender seismographs with pencil in his hand.

Hussel died on 18 November at age of 83 years after a short, severe illness in a hospice in Berlin.
