Malcolm Young: He was the essence

In early days critics often made fun of AC/DC and ir supposed stupidity. You must have mistaken something. Anyone who is able to write such a completely time-relieved soul comforter, a song that creeps into constitution of all Pubertanden of this earth, like T.N.T., cannot be so tumb. This is reason for band's grandiose success, first and foremost among underage boys: You don't have to understand what your songs are about to understand songs.

Their exhibited simplicity is not due to lack of musical and instrumental knowledge, but simple calculus or, if you will, aestic necessity. AC/CD are radical pragmatism of plebeian, who, with its means of household, has to turn every penny three times, but neverless likes to beat over strands, turned into rock musical. Here re is an economy that still attaches importance to every single chord. Here it still makes a difference wher last tone before chorus is subdued, stopped or left standing, because it is charged with compositional meaning, because dramaturgy would be devil, because one would hear error immediately if rhythm guitarist Out of print mode.

But subjunctive was always a referring, because here Malcolm Young was rhythm guitarist, best right hand of rock ' n ' roll.

An open air in Lower Saxony Stadium in Hanover, it was early nineties. With If you want blood (you've got it), Malcolm whipped his flock forward and Angus gave his notorious ride on favorite roadies shoulders through crowd, as suddenly – presumably he has gone too far from stage, exceeded range of transmitter – Solo guitar failed. What followed is hard to put into words, as always when you partakers an epiphany:

Malcolm Young did not even look up, let alone surprise his musicians. Angus Young's lead guitar gave nothing more of himself, was dead. His bror Malcolm, however, continued to beat his chords. He didn't get any faster, no slower, no single note, no rhythmic variation, and didn't leave anything. He just hit his chords. and struck. and struck. For minutes, only this familiar known reef episode was to be admired. But that was perfect, audience was literally exploding. Malcolm still did not look up, but an unearthly luminescence replayed him and his Zerschundene 1963 Gretsch Jet Firebird, a halo that may be due to crafty light mixer – and whose metaphysical quality is still out of question Stand. No Angus Solo could have had this concentrated, crude power, that was essence of AC/DC, and 50,000 people knew it and celebrated it for it.

Malcolm Young had been beaten for a long time. At first he fell ill with lung cancer and became healthy again, later he suffered from heart failure and was allowed to plant a pacemaker, even from a stroke he recovered and learned all riffs he had devised toger with Angus. But his brain was apparently more seriously damaged than initially thought. He was put into a home for dementia patients – and went on without him. There were apparently too many workers on it to close store AC/DC just like that. Neverless, it was a lack of piety.

Decades ago, soon after loss of her charismatic singer Bon Scott, young brors had sworn to throw in beggar if any of m had happened. Now emergency had occurred and now re was a Plan B. Her nephew Stevie Young jumped in, who had already helped out for a tour when Uncle Malcolm sat in a addiction. AC/DC even recorded an album, but Rock or bust revealed only too clearly who was missing.

How much Malcolm Young makes difference is easy to find out by comparing any AC/DC cover version to original. It does not fail first of all on vocals, it fails on basic. It lacks essence.

On November 18th, Malcolm Young died in circle of his family with 64 years.
