Burgerim: The internationally known mini-burger chain is opening another Orange County outlet later this year. The Tel Aviv-born burger concept, which allows customers to build their own mini-burgers from a variety of patty choices, has more than 160 locations around the globe. Last year, it launched an aggressive franchise growth plan in the United States. It has Southern California locations in Victorville, Montclair and Hollywood, as well as locations in Texas and Tenessee. The Orange restaurant, in the vacant Pat & Oscar’s space across from the MainPlace in Santa Ana, is expected to open in May.
The Orange location is at 763 S. Main St.
My Fit Foods Co.: The packaged healthy food maker based in Austin, announced Sunday that it would close all its stores. It operated one in Costa Mesa. The 11-year-old company sold prepared healthy meals.
Muscle Maker Grill: The fast-casual restaurant chain that also sells healthy meal plans, said it will accept My Fit Foods offers and coupons at face value at its store in Irvine at the Jamboree Promenade Shopping Center.
Grocery Outlet: The Bay Area discount supermarket chain has announced its next round of California restaurants, including one planned for Tustin. The location, which is taking over the space vacated by Trader Joe’s on Newport Boulevard, is slated to open April 20. Trader Joe’s moved out of this location, at 12932 Newport Ave., last year when it relocated to a larger space nearby on Irvine Boulevard.
McDonald's: Two fast-food burger restaurants inside Walmart stores in Huntington Beach and Laguna Niguel recently closed. A representative for McDonald's in Southern California said the decision to close at the end of a lease is up to the franchisee. Other McDonald's locations continue to operate inside Walmart stores in Southern California, McDonald’s said.
Shinkou Sushi & Poke: The Laguna Hills eatery closed in late January. The restaurant posted a closure note on its Facebook page, thanking customers for their loyalty since they opened nearly six years ago. “It is a bittersweet feeling. We are sad and yet excited for the future adventures await. We thank you all again for your patronage and love,” the restaurant wrote on its Facebook page. Owner Veronica Hananto said a few factors contributed to the closure, including the inability to negotiate a new lease in a timely manner and the loss of key employees. Center Street: The Gypsy Den at Center Street Promenade in Anaheim has closed. The owner rebranded the cafe,now called Center Street Tavern. The owner described the modern tavern as a zero attitude hangout serving classic beers, elevated wines and simple cocktails.
Carrows/Coco’s closure and swap: The Carrows at 28502 Marguerite Pkwy. in Mission Viejo has been converted to a Coco’s. As a result of the rebrand, the Coco's at 27750 Crown Valley Pkwy. in Mission Viejo has closed, according to Mike Griffith, a representative for Catalina Restaurant Group. The company, acquired two years ago by Food Management Partners, operates both brands. Griffith said there are no plans to reopen Carrows anywhere else. With the closure of Carrows in Mission Viejo, there are none left in Orange County. Last week, a Coco’s at 900 Bristol St. North in Newport Beach also closed. The coffee house is being converted into Il Barone, a popular Italian restaurant relocating from another site in the city.
Bakery Update: Mr. Holmes Bakehouse pushed its opening date to March 4 at Union Market Tustin.
AG: The contemporary denim brand opened a flagship store at Fashion Island Friday.
