USA: Starbucks trains employees against racism

Starbucks has announced consequences after controversial arrest of two African Americans in one of its cafes in USA. In afternoon of 29 May, more than 8,000 branches in country will remain closed, Starbucks shared. About 175,000 employees are to participate in a training against racist prejudice and discrimination during this period.

Last Thursday, a video of an incident in a Starbucksfiliale in Philadelphia caused outrage throughout country. It shows how two blacks of police officers were taken out of café with handcuffs. The men had asked Starbucks staff to use toilet. The staff refused because men had not ordered anything. When employees instructed two to leave store and y did not follow demand, staff called police. Or guests who filmed scene and spread it in social media affirmed that men had done nothing wrong.

The detained men were released after a short time. The lawyer of two said y had agreed to a business meeting at café. They would not have ordered anything because y would have waited for a third participant.

The video has now been viewed in millions of times. The mayor of Philadelphia expressed his concern. The incident was not just a Starbucks affair, he was a social affair, he said in a written message. "People can react differently to ors because of ir skin color, and that's wrong," it continued.

On Monday, protesters protested in Starbucks café where incident occurred and hindered business.

Starbucks boss Kevin Johnson said he had spent past few days in Philadelphia and listened to people to learn what company did wrong. The Antirassismusseminar was just one of several measures that Starbucks wanted to take against discrimination.
