Carrie Fisher receives comic book tribute from Portland publisher

She was a beloved actress, a best-selling author, a high-profile advocate for those struggling with addiction and mental illness. Now Carrie Fisher is the subject of a comic book tribute from Portland's TidalWave Comics.

"Tribute: Carrie Fisher," a 28-page collectible that comes out Wednesday, is the latest title in a series that has also paid homage in the past year to entertainers such as David Bowie and Freddie Mercury.

Fisher, best known for her role as Princess/General Leia Organa in the "Star Wars" movie mega-franchise, died Dec. 27 at age 60.

"The Tribute line of comic books tells the stories of the classic entertainers that have passed on," TidalWave's publisher, Darren G. Davis, said in a statement posted on Facebook Tuesday. "It is a way for us to honor these people who have made a difference in the world."

"When it comes to someone as beloved as Fisher, I wanted to pay homage to what fans love about her: her sense of humor, her persistence in the face of adversity, and her spirit," the comic book's co-writer, Michael Frizell, said in the post.

TidalWave will donate part of the comic book's sales to Silver Hill Hospital, a nonprofit mental health facility in Connecticut that treated Fisher. "It was one of the best places I was ever institutionalized" for alcohol addiction and bipolar disorder, CNN quoted her as saying.

"Tribute: Carrie Fisher" will be available in print exclusively from ComicFleaMarket.com. It will also be available in an electronic edition from ebook retailers.
