Fox News' Brenda Buttner, 'Bulls & Bears' host, dead at 55

Brenda Buttner, a pioneering female financial journalist and host of Fox News' "Bulls & Bears," has died after a battle of cancer at 55.

Colleague Neal Cavuto announced her death Monday with a heartfelt tribute to the longtime Ridgewood resident and mother of two daughters. "Brenda kept score without ever having to settle scores," he said. "Everyone deferred to her, everyone listened to her, maybe because everyone respected her, a woman whose only bias was the clock and whose only goal was giving equal time to all."

Buttner was born in Santa Cruz, Calif., graduated from Harvard and studied politics and economics as a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford. She began her journalism career at Reno's KCRL and rose to host "The Money Club" on CNBC and serving as the network's Washington correspondent before joining Fox News in 2000. She had been battling cancer for more than a year.

"You'd never know what she was going through, just that in her sickest moments battling an un-relenting cancer, there was Brenda cheering you on," Cavuto said. "She took stock of life much more than any stock in life. It's what separated her from everyone else in this business. Not just dollars, Brenda had depth."
