The Top Brands for Luxury Watches in the World

Luxury watches are not just beautiful and practical – they tell the time, of course – but they are also a great investment when it comes to accessories. You can always tell a luxury watch from an ordinary, run-of-the-mill watch, and it doesn’t just boil down to the way the watch looks. The more complex the watch’s features, the more expensive it often is, and if it is made with true aesthetic appeal, quality, and attention to detail, you have a great asset on your hands (or rather, wrist). And whilst there are numerous watch brands around, there are some which stand out for various reasons. Whether you are still looking for the best watch brand to buy or would like to confirm whether your current watch makes the cut, here are the top brands for luxury watches in the world.

·Patek Philippe

Patek Philippe SA has long been regarded as one of the best luxury brands, and this Swiss watchmaker produces a list of the most high-end watches anyone could find. The prestige of the brand is well-known, and in November 2014, one of its watches, the Patek Philippe Henry Graves Supercomplication, became the most expensive timepiece ever bought with its $24 million (£18.3 million) price tag.

Many famous people have worn the watch brand, including Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, Victor Emmanuel III, and Robert Downey, Jr. The price of a Patek Philippe watch can range from between $15,000 (£11,000) to $1 million (£762,500), but it’s a great and worthy buy.

·Tag Heuer

Tag Heuer is another worthy watch brand, and this Swiss watchmaker has also branched out into producing mobile phones, accessories, and eyewear. The name 'Tag Heuer' is actually short for Techniques d'Avant Garde, and the 'Heuer' stands for Edouard Heuer, the brand's founder. Tag Heuer is known for its sporty look, and it's a fashionable watch amongst the drivers of race cars. Some famous people who have been seen wearing the watch include Leonardo DiCaprio, Barack Obama, and Brad Pitt.

·Rolex

Rolex is a popular watchmaker, and for good reason. It remains a symbol of prestige around the world, and its price tag isn't as prohibitive as other luxury brands. In fact, you can buy a Rolex watch for $5000 (£3800), although the more expensive ones can go for $650,000 (£495,600). Famous Rolex watch wearers include Mark Wahlberg, Orlando Bloom, Kanye West, and David Beckham.

·Omega

Omega SA is another Swiss watchmaker, and Louis Brandt founded the brand in the year 1848. Omega has the distinction of being the very first watch brand to reach the moon, as an Omega watch was worn by astronaut Buzz Aldrin when they made their first moon landing. Some of the more popular Omega models used by men include Constellation, Omega Speedmaster, Omega Seamaster, Specialties, and De Ville. Some famous Omega watch wearers include Daniel Craig, Steve Carrell, and Elvis Presley. Omega watch prices aren’t that exorbitant, either; you can have your own Omega watch for about $1000 (£762), although the price can also go up to as much as $708,000 (£539,000).

Of course, there are other famous watch brands, such as Tissot, Rado, and Longines, and you can’t go wrong with any of these. If you already have one of these luxury brands, then you have an asset and accessory which you’ll enjoy wearing for years. You can either be a collector of different watch brands, or you can stick to one watch which you can make use of time and time again. With some brands, you can easily swap watch straps, so you have a different look for different occasions, and you can easily purchase accessories such as an Omega buckle, strap, or more (as long as they’re from reputable retailers, of course).
