CLEVELAND, Ohio -- A Cleveland man is charged in connection with a shootout inside an apartment that killed a 31-year-old woman.

Christian Mitchell, 26, is charged with aggravated murder. He is not in police custody and a warrant was issued Sunday for his arrest.

Mitchell is accused of fatally shooting Tionna Young, 31.

A second man, Derrell Odom, 33, of South Euclid, is also charged with aggravated murder. He is scheduled for his first court appearance on Tuesday.

The shooting happened about 11 a.m. Thursday at an apartment building on East 140th Street and Kinsman Avenue.

Mitchell lured Odom to Young's apartment in order to rob him, according to court records.

When Odom man arrived, he burst into the apartment and the two exchanged gunfire inside the apartment, court records say.

Odom was shot in the hip and Young was shot in the chest and arm. She later died at University Hospitals. Odom was treated for his injuries.

Mitchell left the apartment before police arrived. It's not known if he was injured during the shootout. An area resident said she heard at least 10 gunshots during the incident.

Police recovered a gun from inside the apartment.

Mitchell also faces charges in connection with an arrest in Garfield Heights where police said he was illegally carrying a gun. Police said on Dec. 9 he was driving a car reported stolen from South Euclid on Turney Road near Summerdale Avenue.

Police searched him and found a loaded gun in his car, according to court records. He was indicted on charges of possessing a gun as a felon, possessing stolen property and carrying a concealed weapon.

He did not show up for his arraignment on Jan. 19. The hearing was reset to March 17.

Mitchell was convicted of drug possession in August 2015 after Cleveland vice detectives reported watching him conduct a drug deal with another man, according to court records.

Police found Mitchell with two bags of marijuana, crack cocaine, a digital scale and three cellphones in his car, police said. The other man was found with nine ecstasy pills.

Mitchell pleaded guilty in the case and was sentenced to probation. He violated the terms of his probation in January 2016 by walking away from a community-based correction facility and was sentenced to nine months in the county jail.

He was sentenced to nine months in prison in 2013 in two separate cases: one for possessing a sawed-off shotgun and another for robbing his ex-girlfriend of $420. In that case, he pushed the woman into a table, stole the money and ran off.

In 2010, Mitchell pleaded guilty in another robbery and was sentenced to two years in prison. He was also convicted in 2009 for drug trafficking and drug possession.
