Only a few of the 110 occupants survived the plane crash in Havana. A two-day state mourning began in Cuba. The German president expressed condolences.

After plane crash in Cuba, state of three survivors is critical. The three women were in danger of life, said Carlos Alberto Martínez Blanco, head of hospital Calixto García in Havana, according to local media. A special team will take care of patients.

On Friday, a Boeing 737 aircraft had crashed from international airport José Martí in Havana shortly after launch and burned in flames. The plane was on its way to Ostkubanische Holguín. According to state media, 110 people were on board: 104 passengers and six crew members.

Wher re could have been more survivors is unclear: Cuban government has not yet confirmed number of deaths and injuries. There was also no official information on cause of accident. According to Cuba's president Miguel Díaz-Canel, a commission investigates incident.

According to Communist Party newspaper Granma, four people could be recovered from wreck alive. Among m was a man who died a short time later. The three women who were recovered were seriously injured in Galixto García Hospital. This presentation is consistent with details of hospital manager. There were no or media reports on possible furr salvages. Wher three women are only survivors of unhappiness is unclear.

Most of passengers were reportedly Cubans. However, some foreigners were also on board. The Mexican Ministry of Transport confirmed that five crew members came from Mexico. The nationality of sixth crew member is unknown. The Argentine Ministry of Foreign Affairs also said that two Argentines died in crash.

The Mexican aviation Authority announced dispatch of specialists to assist in investigation. The aircraft manufacturer Boeing also provided a team of technicians.

The crashed machine belonged to Mexican airline DAMOJH, but was rented and operated by Cuban state Cuban company. The airline DAMOJH was founded in 1990 in Mexico. According to Mexican Ministry of Transport, fleet includes only three aircraft.

Cuba's president Díaz-Canel extolled his condolences to relatives of victims. He also said, "Things have been organized, fire has been solved and remains have been identified." On Saturday, a two-day state mourning began, flags were set nationwide at half-mast.

Condolences also came from abroad. Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier addressed a letter of condolence to Díaz-Canel. With deep dismay, he read of catastrophe.

Pope Francis is deeply saddened, prays for deaths and is close to injured, was called in a telegram published by Vatican to chairman of Cuban Bishops ' conference, Archbishop Dionisio Guillermo García Ibáñez. The pope asked García to send his condolences to families concerned.
