Blackboard in Essen: Arms against Arms

To spend food only on Germans may be wrong – but the real scandal is somewhere else.

Blackboard in Essen: Arms against Arms

If immigration was previously disputed, it was considered greatest danger: parallel society. Since dispute has shifted to net since Shitstorms and social fronts, which are digitally hardened, a new danger has been added: parallel debate. It passes reliably at core of problem. It escalates within hours. And at end spits out a culprit who can do nothing for problem. A few refugees, for example. Or someone like Jörg Sartor.

Sartor is head of Essen table. For years, he and his colleagues have been distributing food to needy people, to homeless and single-handed people, to pensioners and refugees. For a long time, hardly anyone was interested. For a few days, however, he has been at center of a hysterical controversy. Sartor had proclaimed that he wanted to re-record only those in need with a German passport. Because many refugees vordrängeltened and did not know what to do. He said that some refugees had a "taker gene".

From right, Sartor is now cheered – as a brave citizen who dares to pronounce aloud what an alleged majority secretly thinks. He is insulted from left – as a hound and racist who helps populists.

Judging by importance of blackboard, Shitstorm is absurd

Sartors decision to supply only Germans was wrong, it violates statutes of tablets. It is aimed at need, not origin of people. But in terms of importance of a local board operator, nationwide Shitstorm is absurd. And he rushes past real scandal.

For fourth time in a row, Federal Republic of 2017 has generated a record surplus. The German state has as much money as it has been for a long time. And yet hundreds of thousands of people living in Germany have so little to go to blackboard.

This article comes from time No. 10/2018. Here you can read entire output.

There are well 930 plates in Germany. Demand, says federal Association of tablets, exceeds donations by far. In fact, more refugees are coming today than before. Many more needy but have a German passport. The number of pensioners who depend on donated food alone has doubled over past ten years.

In February, economists at Ifo Institute for Economic Research investigated German income situation. Social spending in state is rising, but money is too rare for those who need it most. In Coalition Treaty of Union and SPD, researchers are urging that re is too little to be done against this contradiction.

The fact that state aid is not enough to provide those who do not get away from upturn is not only evident in tables where refugees with German mors tussle a few slices of expired cheese. It is evident in urban real estate markets dominated by private investors, where students, unemployed and migrants compete for few remaining cheap flats. For pensioners who would be impoverished without private provision and often are not able to pay a place in a home. The municipalities that sell ir property to private companies and still suffocate in debt.

All this has little to do with open borders in year 2015. And much with opening of markets in nineties, with privatisation and deregulation waves of past, consequences of which now spill into present. The need was not created by influx of refugees, but only aggravated – and thus more visible. It's complicated to alleviate m. More complicated than to show refugees. More complicated than hitting supposedly correct side with shrill Rassismusvorwürfen.

Is Jörg Sartor, head of Essen table, a racist? If grand coalition is to be re-governed in near future, re are bigger, more important questions: How social is social market economy that CDU likes to talk about? And why race so many who have little to AfD instead of Social Democrats?

One answer would probably help people who are queuing at Jörg Sartor. Those with a German passport. and those without.
