Can you actually imagine impact of controversial debate on subject of family reunifications on refugees living here? Especially to unfortunate ones, whose hopes for family reunification in a safe place would be disregarded by new law that has now been debated?

The thrust of interior minister Horst Seehofer to tighten up conditions for family reunification sparks a debate in which political, societal and humanitarian arguments clash.

The fact that a part of German society advocates restriction or even abolition of family reunification may first be illuminated: some think that Germany is supposed to be in reception of refugees already fulfilled.

This position is represented in particular by those who were already opposed to opening of border, when a huge number of people took up dangers of sea and land path in order to flee to Germany before death. These preemptively angry people see an intruder in every refugee, of whom re are too many in ir homeland anyway.

But even people who first received refugee with open arms are now in for a tightening of laws. At that time y assumed that it would have been done with a roof over head, something to eat and a few children's toys. They had no idea of coming, far greater challenges that would be overcome only with more determination and mutual understanding.

Stir up fears and exploit ignorance

It is obvious that conservative and right-wing political forces are going to vote by taking advantage of people's fears and exploiting ir political ignorance. They explain to greatest dangers of migrants or refugees, using established stereotypes of or, and advise against fact that y know Neuhinzugekommenen.

I don't want to tell you about escape stories or suffering of waiting people. Nor do I want to promote your compassion or to present to you results of an opinion poll among refugees, which of official decisions had greatest impact on your personal destiny. All I want is to raise a few questions.

    Four questions to German

    1. Do you think that a political decision that breaks down families will be consistent with ir humanitarian principles and guiding culture y are worried about and which y want to protect from intruders? Would such a decision not be a step backwards in face of moral and humanitarian upward development that Germany experienced after end of Second World War?

    2. Do you consider family reunification to be an award which, according to certain criteria you have set, is awarded to some refugees, while everyone else is leaving empty? So if this is a competition, n why were rules not clear from start? Then everyone would have had same chances. Instead, whoever first came, and misery awaits all ors whose only fault is not to have come first.
