Children hurrying over schoolyard, race toger, drive with yellow scooters over yard, laugh, shout, Screech. It's a big break, a teacher has supervision, from center of court she keeps everything in view. Cut-out paper Schneemänner and stars are stuck on window panes of classroom. In elementary school Aue-Fallstein in Hesse re is still winter decoration, and parts of large lettering on façade have crashed. But school administration has really just more pressing problems. A conflict has escalated between parents, teachers and students, and nobody knows how to get it back to grips.

The village of Hesse is located on northwestern edge of Saxony-Anhalt, for eight years it has been a part of town of Osterwieck. 1,100 people, old timbered houses and narrow streets. It is not a problem village, because re is work in surrounding larger cities of Harz. But Hesse now has a problem school.

At beginning of February, eight teachers of school wrote a letter to all parents, two and a half closely printed pages. There is talk of "permanent disturbances and brawls", of "not abiding by known rules of conduct" and "not appearing in classroom". And of "extreme physical violence", in many children "an already developed feeling cold towards classmates can be seen". The teachers have announced countermeasures in letter: In future, "pupil concerned will be removed immediately from classroom or break", children should get school exclusion of up to five days, police will be alerted.

The parents should sign that y have read letter and give signed note to child. "We ask you to take this letter very seriously, since situation at school is very serious at moment", teachers have formulated. It is a primary school in which approximately 160 children learn from first to fourth grade. But Aue-Fallstein suddenly sounds like Rütli school, a major school in Berlin-Neukölln, which made headlines nationwide because its college 2006 threatened to give up – violence at school was not to be curbed.

When lesson is over on this February day, mors are standing outside entrance to pick up ir children. She found letter well, says one of m, Nina Gruber *. "Do you see iron rod on farm? That was two times. There was a volley net in between. " Students would have beaten up pole and n beat anor one, she reported. "He came to hospital with a place wound." Anor mor saw children standing around a boy lying on ground, still kicking him in back. The conditions are really bad at school, says Nina Gruber. "Just media action that's next to it." Now call of school and whole village is broken.
