Vatican: Pope pleads for new translation of the Father our

Pope Francis has criticized translation of a request in far of ours in several languages. The request of German "and lead us not tempted" is "not a good translation", said Catholic head of church to Italian channel TV2000. The translation "Don't Let Me get tempted" goisern it better. In France, bishops had decided to change official translation of far of ours to first Advent Sunday accordingly.

It is not God, but Satan who is tempting man, said Francis. Therefore, new translation is more applicable. A far does not do such a thing, but helps to get up again. The request is handed down in both Gospel of Luke and Matw. As early as twentieth century, ologians such as Joachim Gnilka had proposed to re-translate request.

In reformed Churches in Switzerland, proposal came up with a positive response. Both cantonal churches, such as Evangelical Reformed Church in canton of Vaud (EERV) and ological commission of Swiss Evangelical Alliance (SEA), spoke out for retranslation. It could be introduced at Easter 2018 if competent bodies agree with proposal.

In Germany, too, ologians had asked for French initiative to adapt translation. The Regensburg Bishop Rudolf Voderholzer warned against "falsification of words of Jesus". The far of our-please be so handed to evangelists Matw and Luke. It is not going to correct Jesus in this regard, said Voderholzer. But one would have to explain se words "that image of God is not obscured".

The Bochum ologian Thomas Söding also spoke out against a change. The previous wording is literally translated from original Greek text. "Anyone who wants to pray with words of Jesus is best suited to New Testament," said Söding in interview of online portal kirche-und-leben.de. The retranslation is "well meant, but not good".
