Turns out Washington is getting a little higher every year. Or at least Washingtonians say they are.

The percentage of Washington adults who report using marijuana has steadily increased since voters approved marijuana legalization in 2012. It was on its way up anyway, and it’s difficult to say whether I-502 accelerated that change.

Surveys taken since legalization show about 18 percent of Washington residents say they use marijuana. That’s up from about 15 percent who reported doing so in Centers for Disease Control and Prevention surveys taken between 2009 and 2011.

King County residents are actually less likely than their peers across the state to use marijuana. But marijuana consumption varies widely from community to community; check out the slideshow above to see how King County’s cities and large neighborhoods compare.

Younger people are far more likely to use marijuana than older people, and men are more likely to use it than women. Seattle residents are significantly more likely to use it than their neighbors to the north, east and south.
