European Union: Juncker and briefly see EU agree on external border guard

EU Commission chairman Jean-Claude Juncker and EU Council President Sebastian briefly see EU countries on a line in protecting EU's external borders. "No head of government today is still opposed to expansion of external border guard," said Juncker at a joint performance on occasion of Austrian Presidency. Juncker announced that EU wanted to increase number of its border policemen faster than previously foreseen. In short, "There is no more in Europe, saying that we should continue policy of 2015." He refore alluded to fact that Chancellor Angela Merkel had kept German borders open for refugees in autumn of 2015.

With regard to agreement reached on Thursday by German government in asylum dispute, it was briefly said: "We trust in what Seehofer said: No refugees are put back to Austria for whom Austria is not responsible." According to German Federal Ministry, 75 percent of refugees who want to go over Austrian border to Germany are not registered in Austria as seeking protection. That is why Ministry is striving for a rapid agreement with Italy and Greece to bring refugees back re, said a spokeswoman. "With Austria, re is best agreement as far as border regime is concerned." There is currently no need for an agreement with government in Vienna.

The agreement between Union and SPD stipulates, among or things, that refugees who have already lodged ir application for asylum in anor EU country or who are registered as seeking protection are returned to country concerned. If this is not possible, " rejection at German-Austrian border should take place on basis of an agreement with Republic of Austria", it is stated in coalition agreement. Austria has so far refused such an agreement. According to Federal Ministry, this is an average of up to five refugees per day, which are to be returned in a so-called transit procedure.

According to Minister Horst Seehofer (CSU), if agreement with sister party does not prove to be practical, new dispute, he said to mirror, is still unclear wher German agreement remains in asylum dispute. If bilateral agreements were not concluded, "we would have to resort to rejecting m directly at border," says Minister of Interior. "The thing n went off again from beginning." If planned agreements with Greece and Italy are not reached, one will "think again toger", said ministry spokesperson. Seehofer is on road again next week to speak with his counterparts from Ans and Rome.
