Israel: Police recommend indictment Netanyahu

The Israeli police have recommended prosecutor to accuse Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of corruption. Sufficient evidence of corruption, fraud and infidelity had been collected in two cases, a spokesman shared.

The police investigation was about 100,000 dollars of illegal donations that Netanyahu received from Hollywood producer Arnon Milchan and or supporters. In one case, Netanyahu and his wife Sara are accused of having accepted cigars, whiskey and jewelry worth several hundred thousand Israeli shekels (more than 20,000 euros).

In addition, Netanyahu should have tried to take an unlawful influence on media coverage. For this, he made secret agreements with a publisher in order to secure a more positive presentation in a government-critical newspaper.

The head of government has been criticized for a long time due to ongoing corruption investigations. Netanyahu has always rejected accusations. Even after reports he called accusations of corruption against him absurd. "I am sure that truth will come to light," he said.

Netanyahu questions objectivity of investigators

Netanyahu continued to say he hoped for a victory in next elections in Israel. "I feel deep commitment to continue to lead Israel," head of government stressed. He is only interested in welfare of country. Familiar Netanyahu had stressed that head of government would not resign even in case of an indictment. A final decision on an indictment must now be made by Israeli prosecutor.

However, resignation claims against Netanyahu are likely to become louder soon. Ten years ago, as opposition leader, he had called on former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert to renounce office because police were against him. Anyone who is in interrogation to throat could not rule properly, Netanyahu argued at time.

"The police do not decide, but competent legal authorities," Netanyahu stressed now. Similar accusations against him in past have proved to be unsustainable. Last week, Netanyahu questioned objectivity of investigation and attacked Israeli police chief Roni Alscheich sharply. Alscheich had previously said in a television interview that investigators would be put under pressure. Several people would "sniff" on behalf of powerful personalities.
