A motorist lost his life on Monday evening after hitting a tractor head-on on Route 109 in Amos, Abitibi-Témiscamingue.
The collision occurred around 7 p.m. when a vehicle deviated from its lane to hit a tractor that was coming in the opposite direction, summarized Catherine Bernard, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).
The victim, a 26-year-old man, was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The driver of the tractor suffered no injuries in the accident.
Distracted driving could potentially have played a role in the collision. A specialized investigator was expected on site to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident and verify this hypothesis.
