Allegheny County Democrats will choose between Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto and Councilwoman Darlene Harris as their endorsed candidate for mayor this year, the committee announced Friday.

Peduto and Harris, who plans to challenge Peduto but has not formally announced her candidacy, each paid a $10,000 fee to seek the endorsement. Rev. John C. Welch of Homewood, a Democrat who has announced a mayoral campaign, did not ante up by Friday's 5 p.m. deadline.

The committee will convene its annual endorsement meeting from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 5 at the IBEW Local 5 Union hall in the South Side.
