Two people and a firefighter were injured in a fire that occurred Monday evening in Saint-Jérôme, in the Laurentians.

Two people and a firefighter were injured in a fire that occurred Monday evening in Saint-Jérôme, in the Laurentians.

The fire started around 10:30 p.m. in a seven-storey residential building, located on Labelle Street.

According to initial information, the fire started in a 4th floor apartment.

About forty firefighters from the Saint-Jérôme fire department were needed to put out the flames, three hours later, helped by their colleagues from Sainte-Sophie and Saint-Colomban.

Five homes were affected and six citizens had to be relocated. Three people were injured, including a firefighter. The latter was injured by cat scratches while trying to save them.

An inanimate person was also found in a dwelling in the building, but this death has no connection with the fire, however indicated the Saint-Jérôme Fire Department.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
