Reissue
"One Million Years B.C.": This reissue of the prehistoric fantasy behind the movie poster that made a sex symbol of Raquel Welch looks great. What it's about - a caveman "West Side Story"? - remains anyone's guess, which can happen when your characters don't have fully developed language skills. It's still worth seeing for the circa 1966 special effects, including blown-up footage of random reptiles and Ray Harryhausen's fantastic stop-motion dinosaurs. (Kino Lorber Blu-ray)

"Bad Santa 2": "Bad Santa" was an anti-Christmas classic, the story of a reprobate in a red suit (Billy Bob Thornton) not quite redeemed by the love of a dim child and the lust of a woman with a Santa fetish. While a degenerate Thornton is still reasonably entertaining, the sequel is one stale piece of fruitcake. Whatever dark alchemy turned a tale of grand larceny, child neglect and alcoholism into comedy gold has sputtered out like a child's belief in Santa Claus.

"Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk": Specialist Billy Lynn has trouble focusing on the folks celebrating his heroism in Iraq during a big Thanksgiving Day pro football game in Texas. To him, it was the worst day of his life - a beloved sergeant died in a firefight - so he's understandably conflicted. Critics had a similar problem. They carped about director Ang Lee's ultra high-def filmmaking process, which most moviegoers would never experience, instead of fully engaging with a rare movie that is completely sympathetic to soldiers while questioning why we glorify war.
