Russian president Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday the state of emergency and scolded the boss of a subsidiary of the mining giant Norilsk Nickel after a serious fuel leak into a river in the Arctic. One of the tanks of diesel fuel to a thermal power plant collapsed on Friday, causing a leak of more than 20.000 tonnes of oil near the arctic city of Norilsk.

The managers of the plant, which belongs to NTEK, a subsidiary of Norilsk Nickel, have been slow to respond and take measures to limit the pollution, said during a video conference of senior officials in Mr. Putin, who was then scolded the boss of NTEK, Sergei Lipine.
