ANAHEIM >> Disneyland’s Mickey & Friends parking structure was evacuated Monday and four workers were hospitalized after several vehicles caught fire, authorities said.

The blaze was reported at 4:37 p.m. and was extinguished about 30 minutes later.

Seven Disney employees suffered from smoke inhalation. Four were taken to a hospital for injuries that were not life-threatening and the rest declined to be transported, said Sgt. Daron Wyatt of the Anaheim Police Department.

Eight cars had major damage – four were a total loss – and one to three more had minor damage, the department said. Police gave an early damage estimate of $180,000.

The fire began on the second story of the 10,000-space structure and its cause was still under investigation. No criminal behavior was suspected.

During the 3-hour evacuation, the trams serving the structure were halted.

For most, the fire was just an inconvenience.

“A lot of people are just tired; they’ve been here all day. It’s more of a nuisance than anything,” Darren Clark, whose family of four couldn’t get to their car because of the shutdown, told KNBC-TV. “I’m kind of hoping it’s not my vehicle.”

People were allowed to return to their vehicles at around 7 p.m., police said.
