A 30-year-old Boulder County man who fell about 50 feet Sunday while climbing in Boulder Canyon was rescued with minor injuries, according to Boulder County Sgt. Sam Hard.

The man, who had several years of climbing experience, was wearing a helmet and was using safety equipment, was climbing with friends in the Tornnere Tower area when he fell at about 2:40 p.m., Hard said.

"Luckily, a tree broke his fall," he said.

When rescuers reached him, he was in pain, but alert and able to answer questions. His main injury was to his right shoulder, Hard said.

Rocky Mountain Rescue Group members had to use ropes to get him down a steep slope and across Boulder Creek, Hard said.

Once he was across the creek, the man was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
