A total of 458 workers died in a work accident in the first eight months of this year, 90 less than in the same period of 2022, which in relative terms implies a decrease of 16.4%, according to provisional data published this Friday by the Ministry. of Labor and Social Economy.
Most fatal accidents occur due to heart attacks and strokes, traffic accidents, entrapments and amputations, falls and collisions with moving objects.
Accidents with sick leave decreased by 0.9% until August compared to the same period in 2022, to a total of 411,861 accidents, of which 357,348 occurred in the workplace (2.3% less) and 54,513 were 'in itinere' accidents (those that occur on the way from home to work or vice versa), with a year-on-year increase of 9.2%.
According to provisional data from the Ministry, fatal accidents during work hours decreased by 17.4% until August, with 373 deaths recorded, 77 less than in the same period in 2022, while 'in itinere' accidents resulting from Deaths decreased by 13.3%, to a total of 85 deaths.
Among fatal accidents during work hours, the services sector recorded the highest number of deaths, 183, which is 12.4% less than in the January-August 2022 period.
All sectors reduced their number of fatal accidents compared to the first eight months of 2022. The largest decrease was recorded in the agricultural sector, which registered 46 deaths (-31.3%), followed by construction and services, which, With 80 and 183 fatal accidents, they reduced the number of deceased workers by 22.3% and 12.4%, respectively. The industry, for its part, recorded 64 fatal accidents, 9.9% less.
For their part, serious accidents during work hours totaled 2,464 until August, 3.5% less, while serious 'in itinere' accidents increased by 4.4%, to 612 accidents.
Minor accidents during work hours fell by 2.2% in the first eight months of the year, to a total of 354,511, while 'in itinere' accidents classified as minor rose by 9.3%, to 53,816.
The Labor statistics also reveal that of the 458 workers who lost their lives in a work accident until August, 410 were employees (-16.8%) and 48 were self-employed, 12.7% less than in the first eight months. from last year.
Of the total number of self-employed workers who lost their lives in a work accident, 47 did so at their workplace, three less compared to the same period in 2022 (-6%), while one died in an accident 'in itinere', four less than until August of last year (-80%).
In total, self-employed workers suffered 22,756 work-related accidents with sick leave until August, 0.6% less than in the same period in 2022, with a 0.4% decrease in accidents during work hours and a drop in 2.4% in 'in itinere' accidents.
Likewise, according to the Ministry's provisional data, 374,708 accidents without sick leave were reported until August, 1.8% more than in the same period in 2022.
