In all, 60 spaces will be available now at Fleur de Lys, but also at Place des Quatre-Bourgeois, Galeries Charlesbourg, Promenades de Lévis, Carrefour St-David and Place Centre-Ville in Saint-Georges.

The spaces are identified by a panel and painted in red and white with a poppy, symbol of Remembrance Day.

To take advantage of this, the veteran's vehicle must however be registered with the veterans plate.

A dozen municipalities in Quebec currently offer free parking to veterans. During his election campaign last October, the one who would become mayor of Quebec, Bruno Marchand, promised to offer free parking in his first year in office.

Other private initiatives of the kind exist, but according to Pierre Dugal, of the Association of Veterans of the Royal 22e Régiment, that of Trudel Corporation is the most important in Quebec.

More details to come.
