A 63-year-old man lost his life after a seaplane crashed on Sunday afternoon in the Saint-Maurice River in Shawinigan.

According to initial information, the incident occurred around 3:45 p.m. The seaplane-type aircraft cut Hydro-Québec cables in its fall, said Geneviève Gagnon, spokesperson for the Quebec (SQ).

“The fire department came for nautical assistance,” said Ms. Gagnon. SQ divers as well as teams from Hydro-Québec and the Transportation Safety Board of Canada also visited the site.

A 63-year-old man was pulled from the seaplane and taken to a hospital in critical condition. He unfortunately died, confirmed the SQ, in the evening.

It is not known if he was alone on board.
