Trade: the disaffection of the town centres continues

The retail centre of the city had no need of it. Since the beginning of the year, they have paid a heavy toll for the movement of the "yellow vests". According to Procos, which encompasses all of the signs of the specialized trade (Decathlon, Ikea, Starbucks...), the attendance of the heart of very large cities has significantly declined on Saturday between January and may.

The phenomenon has been more marked in Montpellier, Bordeaux, Toulouse (a drop of more than 15 %) to Nantes, Caen and Strasbourg (a decline of around 5%). In return, we have recorded an increase in traffic on Monday and Friday in these cities. But it was not enough to compensate for the poor figures on Saturday. "Consumers have turned away from the town centre because they feared they would be blocked by demonstrations even though none was scheduled that day", says Emmanuel Le Roch, executive director of the Procos.
