A difficult decision to secure our future

The metamorphosis that the media world is undergoing and the unfair competition offered by the web giants to traditional media, combined with that of Radio-Canada, once again force us to make a difficult but responsible decision to ensure the survival of the Journal de Québec. .

We are announcing today that all of the operations and equipment of our Quebec City printing plant will be sold in the coming weeks to Quebecor Media Printing.

Le Journal de Québec will therefore be printed in Mirabel, where Le Journal de Montréal already is, which will allow us to concentrate the printing of our Journals in one place. Our readers and subscribers can be reassured: Le Journal de Québec will continue to be printed six days a week and delivered daily.

This decision leads to the layoff of press operators and shippers. We would like to sincerely thank them for all the efforts and work accomplished during the years they have devoted to the Journal.

A colorful journal

On the other hand, this change will also lead to new things in your Journal. Indeed, Quebecor Media Printing is equipped with more modern facilities, it is to a full color edition that readers of the Journal de Québec will now have access to.

New appointments dealing with what is happening in the capital, sports, shows but also in all our sections, will also appear on our pages in the coming weeks. Our team is already working on it.

You can be sure that we will continue to keep you informed every day with revelations from our Bureau of Investigation, political news from our Parliamentary Bureau, exclusive news from journalists in all our sections, as well as our Opinions pages, by far the most diverse in Quebec.

However, this decision will force us to review some of our operations, in particular our deadline, which will be slightly advanced.

As a result, we will have to adapt our coverage of events taking place in the evening. As is currently the case, these events will continue to be covered by our journalists on the web, on our website journaldequebec.com, as well as in the QUB application and on our social networks. Subscribers to our electronic edition will also have access to breaking news.

Rest assured that our journalists will work hard to provide you with the best coverage of news from Quebec and Eastern Quebec.

A necessary decision

The decision to sell the operations and equipment of our printing plant on avenue Béchard was not easy to make, but it is necessary to ensure the sustainability of the Journal de Québec, which will celebrate its 56th anniversary in 2023.

This decision is in the same vein as that which other press groups from here and elsewhere have had to take, in recent years, in order to be able to look to the future with optimism.

This is another measure aimed at enabling us to face unfair competition from web giants, who monopolize too large a share of advertising revenue in the digital universe.

In Canada, this competition is all the more intense because Radio-Canada, a company subsidized by the federal state, also participates in it, with taxpayers' money.

Thank you

Once these changes are complete, Le Journal de Québec will be able to pursue its mission of providing its readers with diversified and quality information.

For a long time to come, your Journal will be there to inform and entertain you in paper format, now in full color, but also on all its platforms, whether its electronic edition, its website or its social networks.

Dear readers, dear readers, thank you for reading us.

Dear advertisers, thank you for your loyalty.
