An elderly man in his forties has been missing since Saturday evening, in the MRC of Mékinak, in Mauricie, while trying to cross the Batiscan River.

An elderly man in his forties has been missing since Saturday evening, in the MRC of Mékinak, in Mauricie, while trying to cross the Batiscan River.

A 40-year-old has been wanted since 7 p.m. on Saturday by the authorities.

"The police officers of the MRC of Mékinac and the emergency services were asked to locate a missing person in the Batiscan River at the height of Notre-Dame-de-Montauban, explained the spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec ( SQ), Nicholas Scholtus. A middle-aged man was crossing the river with another person. He was lost to sight in the river by the other person during the crossing. The fire departments headed out to patrol the river and the banks.”

“This morning [Sunday], the search was amplified with a command post, added the spokesperson. To help us, there are walkers, SQ divers and a helicopter.
