A Quebec gin shines internationally

A Quebec organic gin recently distinguished itself in an international competition.

The “Contre Vents et Marées” gin from Distillerie Birster, located in Val-des-Sources in the Eastern Townships, won two gold medals in the organic and London Dry Gin categories at the Global Gin Masters in London in June.

Launched barely a year ago, brothers Guillaume and Philippe also won gold at the Nations Cup in Quebec City last year.

Made with a neutral sugar cane alcohol and a dozen herbs, including juniper and dune pepper, it is also one of only two in Quebec to be certified organic.

A family story

This product is also a family memory.

It was when their father died in 2019 that they decided to embark on the adventure of gin and pay tribute to him.

The love of cooking in the balance of flavors of the product and the passion for sailing, identified by the small boat on the bottles, are some of the ways in which the sons have highlighted the heritage of their father.
