What better way to start 2023 than with a shower of shooting stars? It is during the nights of January 1 to 5 that Quebecers will be able to admire this phenomenon in the sky.

Although shooting stars are visible during the nights of January 1-5, the intensity will be at its peak on the night of January 3-4.

“You have to look in the constellation Bouvier, just a little below the Big Dipper. It is the most important swarm of the year. We are talking about 100 to 120 shooting stars per hour in ideal conditions,” said the Montreal Planetarium Astronomical Society, adding that the Moon could interfere with observations because of its light.

The first full moon of the year 2023 will be visible in the sky two days later, the night of January 6 to 7.
