Alouettes: Sean Jamieson on the sidelines, David Brown as backup

The Montreal Alouettes' first victory in 2022 left its mark, as center Sean Jamieson fell in action.

On Tuesday, head coach Khari Jones said the offensive lineman's name had been on the crippled list for six games. Jamieson injured his right knee when an opposing player fell on him in the final moments of last Thursday's game.

“It seems less serious than we anticipated. He should be able to return to the game this year”, however revealed Jones after the training of his people.

In the meantime, it is the Alouettes' handyman on the offensive line, David Brown, who will take on the responsibilities of center.

"We never want to lose a guy like Jamieson, but we know we're in good hands with Brown," said quarterback Trevor Harris, who pretty much sums up the message conveyed by all the team members interviewed at this subject.

Flowers for 'LBJ' and Jamieson

In 2021, Brown briefly took over for Jamieson at center when he was injured. The experience was brief, since the substitute was hit in turn.

“He has evolved enormously since he was a member of the Alouettes. I have full confidence in his abilities. Last year, when he was sent into the fray, he had performed very well before getting injured,” said league offensive instructor Luc Brodeur-Jourdain.

Brown welcomes this challenge with optimism, he who had never played as a center before joining the Sparrows. Number 66 feels sufficiently equipped, thanks in particular to “LBJ”.

“Luc helped me enormously to understand the intricacies of this position, having played there for more than 10 years in this league,” Brown said.

The 27-year-old also opened up about her close relationship with Jamieson. Both men are the same age and played together with the Western University Mustangs.

“He was my mentor in college and in the pros. It is something very rare. I am very grateful that he is in my life as a friend and teammate,” said the man Brodeur-Jourdain described as “an apprentice Sean Jamieson”.

Uncertainty among linebackers

Linebacker Chris Ackie was still conspicuous by his absence from Tuesday's practice. His teammate Adarius Pickett, probably the Sparrows' best player since the start of the season, spent a good part of the exercise on a stationary bike.

Jones said there was a possibility both men would miss next Saturday's game against the Roughriders in Saskatchewan. Ackie was out of uniform last week, while Pickett was taken out of the matchup after the first half.

The possible absence of these two very important pieces of the Alouettes' defense could have been catastrophic, had it not been for the brilliance of the players who took their place on the field.

Indeed, Brian Harelimana has been excellent in Ackie's position, while Tyrice Beverette has risen to the challenge of replacing Pickett. The Als pilot confirmed that these two young footballers will get the starts, if the other two are not recovered enough to see action in Regina.
