The American company of electronic commerce products and services in the cloud Amazon recorded in the whole of 2022 net losses of 2,722 million dollars (2,490 million euros), which translates into a contraction with respect to profits of 33,364 million dollars (30,525 million euros) in 2021.

Revenues, on their side, reached 513,983 million dollars (470,250 million euros), which represents an increase of 9.4% compared to the turnover of 469,822 million dollars (429,846 million euros) of the previous year.

The increase in costs for Amazon triggered operating expenses by 12.8%, up to 501,735 million dollars (458,821 million euros), especially in the sales, logistics, technology and marketing chapters.

In order to reinforce its profitability, the company undertook a round of layoffs in its workforce in November that affected a total of 10,000 employees, after having previously paused net hiring.

Regarding the fourth quarter of the year, Amazon achieved profits of 278 million dollars (254.4 million euros), compared to the positive balance of 14,323 million dollars (13,104 million euros) a year earlier, 98% less year-on-year, as reported by the company.

For its part, quarterly revenues were 149,204 million dollars (136,509 million euros), which represents an improvement of 8.6% compared to the turnover of 137,412 million dollars (125,720 million euros) in 2021.
