Arson at Towing Meteor: a first suspect is arrested

A first suspect has been arrested as part of the investigation into the series of arson attacks targeting Montreal-based Meteor tow trucks.

Justin Attallah, 26, was arrested Tuesday in Rosemère, on the North Shore of Montreal. He appeared at the Montreal courthouse on Wednesday on charges of arson, possession of incendiary materials and possession of false identification.

Attallah is suspected of having entered the land of the company Météor with a can of gasoline on April 21, in the Saint-Michel district.

He then allegedly set a tow truck on fire before fleeing on foot.

“This event is part of a series of arson attacks targeting the company Remorquage Météor. The information gathered so far tends to show that these fires are linked to a sharing of towing territories on the island of Montreal,” the SPVM said in a press release.

On April 10, a suspect made his way inside the towing company's yard by cutting through a fence. However, he turned back when he came face to face with a surveillance camera.

In November 2021, four tow trucks belonging to Remorquage Météor were set on fire in two separate events.

The SPVM has indicated that the investigation is still ongoing in this case.
