Bank delinquency rises slightly to 3.86% in August

The delinquency of loans granted by all credit institutions to companies and individuals stood at 3.86% in August, slightly above the 3.85% of the previous month, when it chained its sixth consecutive month of declines.

According to provisional data from the Bank of Spain, the NPL ratio fell by 57 basis points compared to a year earlier.

Doubtful loans decreased by 198 million euros compared to the previous month (-0.42%) and by 6,307 million compared to a year earlier (-11.8%).

Despite this decrease in doubtful loans, the NPL ratio remained unchanged due to the fact that credit to the resident private sector fell by 7,473 million euros in the month (-0.57%), to stand at 1.22 trillion euros. euros. Compared to a year earlier, the volume of credit grew by 15,752 million euros (1.32%).

The figures include the methodological change in the classification of Financial Credit Institutions (EFC), which since January 2014 ceased to be considered within the category of credit entities.

Excluding the change, delinquency would stand at 3.95% in August, since the credit balance was 1.19 billion euros in that month, excluding EFC credit.

The data broken down by type of institution shows that the doubtful ratio of all deposit institutions (banks, savings banks and cooperatives) closed August at 3.77%, the same figure as the previous month and below the 4.27% of a year before.

On its side, the default ratio of financial credit establishments stood at 6.30% in the eighth month of the year, above the 6.28% of July and below the 6.53% of a year before .

According to data from the Bank of Spain, the provisions of all credit institutions fell to 32,981 million euros in August, with a decrease of 199 million in the month and 6,145 million euros in the year.
