Barricade and fire: a family dispute escalates in Longueuil on Christmas Day

A 49-year-old man barricaded himself in his residence on Pandale Street in Greenfield Park, on the South Shore of Montreal, around 12:15 p.m. Sunday after a family dispute broke out.

The man, presumably in possession of a knife, would have started a fire in his home in Longueuil.

It was feared that propane canisters were inside and risked causing explosions.

He was there alone then.

A security perimeter was erected upon the arrival of police officers from the Longueuil Agglomeration Police Service (SPAL).

The tactical intervention group would have been dispatched to the scene shortly afterwards.

A dozen neighboring residences had to be evacuated.

The sector is also affected by the Hydro-Québec power outage.

The investigation was transferred to the Bureau of Independent Investigations (BEI), as required by law, after the case ended in a death during the police intervention.

More details to come.
