Benchmark inflation in Japan eased to 3.1% in February, but core inflation hit its highest since 1982

The reference inflation rate in Japan, the one that excludes the impact of the price of fresh food, stood at 3.1% year-on-year last February, compared to 4.2% the previous month, according to published data. by the Ministry of the Interior and Communications of the Japanese country.

The inflation data for February represents the smallest rise in prices, excluding fresh food, since September of last year and the first slowdown in the rate since January 2022.

In the case of the headline inflation rate, the CPI reached 3.3% in February, compared to 4.3% the previous month, the smallest rise in the index since September 2022.

However, the core inflation rate, which in addition to fresh food also excludes energy, rose to 3.5% in February, three tenths more than the previous month, reaching its highest level since January 1982.
