The 2:42 game ended in three sets of 6-7 (5), 6-4 and 6-4, to the advantage of the 75th racket in the world. It was the first meeting between the two players.

Andreescu double faulted six times, allowing Garcia to break serve five times. This was the story of the match for the 22-year-old tenniswoman, who was sometimes shut out with the balls in hand and who only won 57.8% of exchanges in these circumstances.

After three games in the second set, Garcia called in a healer, who worked extensively on her right shoulder. Banking on the precision of her serves, the French shut out the Ontarian in the next game, before conceding the break to the former fourth WTA player. Trailing 4 to 2, the Frenchwoman finally won four consecutive games to save herself with the set.

The third set was also tight, but Garcia was able to take advantage of the moments of weakness of his young opponent of 22 years to get his hands on an eighth career title.

For Andreescu (64th), it was a sixth final, his first on grass. Slowed down by injuries in the last year, she reached her first decisive duel since April 2021, in Miami. The retirement of Simona Halep in the previous round had opened the door for the Canadian.

Andreescu will now head to London to compete at Wimbledon, the third Grand Slam of the season. She will begin her journey on Tuesday by crossing swords with American Emina Bektas.
