The Correctional Service of Canada seized $37,300 in contraband on Thursday at the Cowansville penitentiary, located in the town of the same name, in the Eastern Townships.
A total of 233 grams of hashish, 100 methamphetamine tablets, 40 narcotic tablets, 800 grams of tobacco and a cell phone were confiscated by officers from the medium security establishment.
These products are worth approximately $37,300, the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) said in a press release.
“CSC has a number of tools to prevent the introduction of drugs into its institutions. These tools include ion scanners and drug detection dogs for searching buildings, personal property, inmates and visitors,” the agency said.
